To overcome the digital skills gap in the healthcare sector, Zambia is training doctors and support staff in digital literacy through its e-government division, the SMART Zambia Institute.
According to the institute, yesterday, employees at Mansa General Hospital in Luapula province received one-day digital literacy training in cyber security, government service bus, which streamlines communication and data exchange between government agencies and healthcare facilities, and Smart Pro, a platform designed to improve healthcare service delivery.
According to SMART Zambia, research have indicated that health workers who lack computer skills are less likely to use electronic medical records (EMRs), emphasising the importance of digital empowerment.
The project, according to the government, emphasises the importance of digital literacy in healthcare, enabling personnel to successfully use EMRs and improve patient care.
“The training, attended by 23 hospital staff, aims to enhance the digital skills of healthcare workers in the province,” said SMART Zambia.
It added: “The SMART Zambia Institute's efforts to enhance digital literacy among healthcare workers are a step towards achieving Universal Health Coverage and improving healthcare outcomes in Zambia.”
