Zambia commended Liquid Intelligent Technologies for supporting the country's digital journey, which it says has empowered communities and strengthened the digital transformation change management  strategy (2023-2026).

The compliments to Liquid were expressed in a speech delivered on behalf of the minister of technology and science, Felix Chipota Mutati, by the ministry's permanent secretary, Dr Brilliant Habeenzu.

He spoke this past weekend at an awards ceremony hosted by Liquid Intelligent Technologies under the theme "Celebrating Customer Excellence and Technological Advancement in Zambia."

According to the ministry's statement, Habeenzu began by sharing the story of a young entrepreneur in a remote community outside Mansa who established a digital payment solution to help market vendors transact safely.

Her platform now serves thousands of users, powered by the very infrastructure provided by Liquid Intelligent Technologies, according to Habeenzu.

To this end, he said: “This is the kind of transformation we are celebrating: ordinary Zambians doing extraordinary things through the power of connectivity. We are not just commemorating achievements; we are celebrating people, the customers, entrepreneurs, visionaries and partners who are redefining Zambia’s digital landscape.

“The young person in Mansa I referred to in my preface. I thank Liquid Intelligent Technologies for creating this platform to spotlight those who are not just adopting technology but using it to enrich lives, grow businesses and empower communities”

Habeenzu went on to say daily he witnesses how digital innovation is reshaping Zambia’s economy.

“From the fintech solutions in Lusaka to agri-tech platforms emerging in Chipata, to youth –run startups in Kitwe and Ndola, the energy is unmistakable. It is a wave of transformation driven by courage, creativity and connectivity,” he said.

He also pointed out that everyone is aligned with his government’s vision of an inclusive and innovation led Zambia.

Under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, the permanent secretary said: “We have seen the roll out of key digital programmes aimed at opening space for innovation and access to government services.”

Among these are the Smart Zambia initiative, which has digitised over 80 public services, benefiting more than 3 million citizens to date, the digital transformation change management strategy (2023-2026) now guiding modernisation efforts across government, tax incentives for ICT investors, expanding fibre networks and free Wi-Fi pilot zones in over 100 underserved communities, all aimed at bridging the digital divide.

Habeenzu continued: “These initiatives are already bearing fruit. Zambia’s tech Start-up ecosystem is growing with over 150 new digital enterprises registered in the past year alone, creating jobs and attracting regional investment.

“Importantly, 65% of the startups are led by youth under 35 and 31% are women led, proving that talent knows no gender and innovation knows no boundaries.”

He went on to commend Liquid Intelligent Technologies for its role in the ecosystem, with over 5,000 kilometers of fibre laid across Zambia, cloud infrastructure, and strategic partnerships.

Additionally, he highlighted government’s partnership with Liquid Intelligent Technologies to connect schools to the Internet.

“The initiative is powering learning and bringing digital education to life for our children. As government we remain committed to fostering a thriving digital economy, by investing in STEM education, promoting private- public innovation hubs, and ensuring that every citizen, especially women, youth and persons in rural areas can access and benefit from the digital revolution,” Habeenzu said.
