Yango, the ride-hailing service provider, intends to broaden its products in Cameroon beyond passenger transportation, adding delivery, e-commerce, car rentals, navigation tools, and fintech offerings, as it deepens its footprint in the Central African country.
The announcement, recently made by senior executives, signals the company’s intent to position itself as a broader technology platform rather than mobility provider only.
Country Manager Clovis Pilla said Yango, which has operated in Cameroon for four years, will introduce delivery services this year in cities where it already operates — Yaounde, Douala and Bafoussam.
The rollout is expected to include food and grocery delivery, with longer-term plans to explore e-commerce marketplaces and fintech solutions, he added.
“Beyond mobility, we are bringing a wider ecosystem of services that support everyday digital needs,” Pilla said.
Yango currently offers several ride categories, including Eco, Comfort and Comfort Plus, as well as a motorcycle (moto) service available in Douala. The company plans to extend the moto option to the outskirts of Yaounde later this year.
Unlike rivals such as Uber, Bolt and Gozem, Yango operates a partnership-driven model, working with local transport companies that manage vehicle fleets and recruit drivers.
The firm says it has around 150 such partners in Cameroon.
Pilla explained that the approach supports local entrepreneurship while enabling faster scaling across cities.
The company is also investing in safety features, including driver verification, real-time ride monitoring and an in-app emergency button linked to support teams and law enforcement.
Yango said the planned expansion could reshape access to transport, delivery and digital services for urban users, as competition intensifies in Cameroon’s growing tech-enabled services market.
