Abu Dhabi based satellite broadband provider, Yahsat, has partnered with internet service provider iWayAfrica in Uganda to launch a new service partnership. The alliance, entered into during AfricaCom held in South Africa in November, will provide locals with access to satellite broadband connectivity countrywide.
Kevin Viret, regional director for Africa at Yahsat told attendees at the launch of the YahClick service that iWayAfrica was a most-valued partner for the project.
"We are delighted to launch our new service with iWayAfrica to deliver YahClick's quality high-speed broadband via satellite to Uganda. We value the local experience iWayAfrica brings to the partnership and, believe today's launch will help drive reliable connectivity across the country."
Ugandans making use of the service will connect nationwide to the internet through a small satellite dish and satellite modem anywhere in the country according to YahClick and iWayAfrica.
The two companies add that satellite technology will be used to provide reliable weather-proof internet services, without the need for terrestrial infrastructure.
Godfrey Sserwamukoko, CEO at iWayAfrica in Uganda emphasised the wide reach of the service during the launch. "New and existing customers across the country, even in the remotest places, will benefit from our partnership with YahClick. It will enable iWayAfrica Uganda to offer Ka band VSAT connectivity in areas within Uganda that are currently not covered by other service providers."
