Just a week after Zimbabwe authorised Starlink to operate, another satellite communications option is ready for launch in the southern African country.
Yahsat and SATCOM Technologies have forged an alliance to provide satellite connectivity solutions for Zimbabwe, aiming to enter the market in June 2024.
The UAE operator is showcasing its satellite communications solutions at the Gitex Africa event in Marrakech, Morrocco this week.
Its chief commercial officer, Sulaiman Al Ali, stated that the business aims to improve connectivity across the African continent and help the continent's digital revolution.
Yahsat is set to expand its fleet with the launch of the Thuraya 4 satellite later this year.
Speaking at Gitex, SATCOM Technologies chief executive officer, Tafadzwa Collins Semu, said the next-generation satellite would further expand coverage and services that would usher in a new era of connectivity.
"Our partnership will play a pivotal role in bridging the digital divide, fostering economic growth, and enabling access to vital services for our communities," Semu said.
