Workday, a cloud-based HR solutions provider, has revealed plans to aggressively roll out its Skills Cloud in South Africa, as part of its efforts to nurture talent in the country.
Skills Cloud is a Workday solution designed to assist businesses in developing a culture that discovers and organises the skills (and skills gaps) within their workforce.
Kiv Moodley, MD, Workday South Africa, spoke with ITWeb Africa about the company's local aspirations.
"Skills Cloud is one of the cloud-based products we have that employs AI machine learning. It enables us to understand the talent and skills that exist within a company.
“Previously, most organisations searched for and advertised positions, and people applied for them, but talent has become the new currency.
“So, utilising the technology that we have, we can establish that someone within an organisation – it could be a banker with a Java skill set or someone working in marketing with a specialisation in mergers and acquisitions by doing an MBA – and occasionally a corporation will be looking for such skills, but they will look elsewhere."
He went on to say Skills Cloud can be used to run a skills audit, and to identify the skills within an organisation and where they exist. With that knowledge, it’s then possible to identify the ‘missing pieces of the puzzle that exist’.
"We believe that there are 20,000 workday consultants globally, but there is a huge opportunity in South Africa. We're speaking to various role players from partners and customers, and receiving different ideas about how we may launch some kind of academy in the future to teach more Workday consultants."
