UnionPay International (UPI) has secured Casablanca Finance City (CFC) status for its Morocco branch. The Shanghai-based card payment organisation will now operate under the CFC legal, fiscal, and regulatory framework, which is designed to support international firms scaling operations across Africa.
The new status enables the Africa branch to operate with greater agility by leveraging local fiscal incentives and regulatory support, says UPI.
The company aims to enhance service delivery for both regional partners and cardholders as it establishes payment infrastructure within North Africa.
UPI maintains a presence in 51 countries and issues cards locally in 13 African nations, including Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, and Mauritius.
The move to join the CFC ecosystem is intended to support greater access to payment solutions for businesses and consumers, according to the firm.
"This recognition strengthens our position as a partner in advancing financial infrastructure and enhancing cross-border connectivity," says Feng Chen, General Manager of UPI Africa Branch.
"Being part of the CFC ecosystem not only reinforces our commitment to the African market but also enables us to operate more efficiently, supporting greater access to innovative payment solutions for businesses and consumers alike."
The CFC framework provides a stable environment for regional integration and this allows the company to focus on its growth strategy while supporting the broader goal of financial innovation on the continent, according to UPI representatives.
