Uganda has scrapped a 25% import duty on terrestrial broadcasting boxes for one year, in a move aimed at ensuring that planned digital migration process remains on course.
This was announced in the national budget, by finance minister Maria Kiwanuka.
The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has set 2015 as the deadline for digital migration transfer resolution of 2006 for all countries party to the agreement to switch from analogue to digital Broadcasting by June 17, 2015.
The DVB-T2 and MPEG 4 are newer standards recommended by the Uganda’s government.
and its communications commission, because the standards are said to presents more benefits in terms of content that can be transmitted, better spectrum efficiency and lower long term costs of investment.
