Uganda has taken a significant step in its digital transformation goal by launching a national e-commerce platform to boost online trade and digital inclusivity.
Posta Uganda, the country's primary postal operator, developed the platform, known as Postcom, to position itself as a logistics-tech enabler in the digital economy.
Godfrey Baluku, state minister for ICT and National Guidance, launched the platform on Tuesday at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala.
He said this innovation is a direct outcome of Uganda’s Digital Transformation Roadmap (FY2023/24–2027/28), which is guiding the country's journey toward a more inclusive, competitive, and digitally empowered economy.
Baluku went on to note that Postcom provides a secure and accessible online marketplace for Ugandans, particularly Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, to easily showcase, sell, and buy locally manufactured goods.
The platform integrates e-commerce with national logistics networks, leveraging Posta Uganda’s last-mile delivery capabilities to solve fulfilment challenges that often hinder online retail growth in developing markets.
“Through Postcom, Uganda is unlocking opportunities for entrepreneurs to access wider markets locally and internationally,” Baluku said.
The initiative also supports the Buy Uganda Build Uganda programme, promoting local production while enabling digital market access.
Baluku urged government institutions, private sector players and entrepreneurs to adopt the platform, noting that scalable digital marketplaces are essential to economic transformation in Africa’s fast-growing tech ecosystems.
