Uganda took a significant step yesterday towards leveraging the power of the internet to transform its people and economy.

Local telecom business Sombha Solutions Store, global technology company Veea Inc, and infrastructure provider BG Titan Group (BGT) have developed the country's first collaborative, shared-infrastructure 'Internet-for-All' prototype network.

This disruptive proof-of-concept responds to a call by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) for industry leaders to move beyond competition and into an era of unprecedented collaboration.

“What we’re achieving today is exactly what UCC envisioned—transforming competitive barriers into pathways of collaboration,” Haruna Nyanzi Lule, CEO of Sombha Solutions Store stated.

“With this shared infrastructure, every provider can now offer world-class connectivity. Together, we are delivering the promise of the digital future to all Ugandans.”

Julianne Mweheire, director for economic regulation, content and consumer affairs at UCC, highlighted the impact of the collaboration.

The executive said consumer empowerment and universal digital access were at the core of the commission’s regulatory vision.

“By championing transparent, affordable, and shared-infrastructure models like this, we’re fostering not only healthy competition but ensuring all Ugandans can actively participate in the digital economy.”

Veea's broadband access platform, which combines Wi-Fi, multi-access backhaul, edge computing, and cyber security into compact VeeaHub devices, is crucial to this venture.

Adam Bicha, vice president, Uganda, BG Titan Group, believes that by deploying robust infrastructure and progressive technologies, they are redefining how quickly the country can modernise.

“This collaborative model isn’t just Uganda’s blueprint. It’s a powerful catalyst that will soon ignite similar transformations across East Africa,” Bicha said.
