United Arab Emirates (UAE) based satellite operator, Yahsat, is gearing up to launch its YahClick ‘broadband everyone’ satellite service in South Sudan over the coming months, the company has said.
According to a press statement, Yahsat has selected local based Internet Service Provider RCS-Communication as their service partner for South Sudan.
It is unclear what South Sudan’s number of internet users are, as the nation only became an independent state in 2011.
However, Internet World Stats say that in Sudan, just 9.3% of the country’s 34 million population, or about 4 million people, have had online access.
South Sudan’s population, according to the World Bank, is just over 10 million.
“As the world’s youngest country, South Sudan is facing multiple infrastructure building priorities,” said Tareq Abdul Raheem Al Hosani, Yahsat chief executive officer.
“YahClick brings internet connectivity instantly to the population, irrespective of the state of the local telecommunications infrastructure that is within their reach,” added Al Hosani.
Flippie Odendal, RCS-Communication South Sudan managing director said, “Based on anticipated growth we will be adding and training VSAT technicians and support staff (with a focus on South Sudanese candidates) to our existing team.”
