Telekom Networks Malawi (TNM) has engaged Meta, the operator of WhatsApp, following reports of customer accounts being compromised in Malawi and other countries.

The reports have prompted concerns about account security among customers of the mobile network operator.

However, the available information does not establish that TNM’s own systems have been compromised.

According to TNM, it is working with Meta to address the reported account compromises, which are affecting users in several countries.

“TNM is aware of customer reports about WhatsApp accounts being compromised. TNM has engaged Meta, the operators of WhatsApp. Meta is currently working on finding the solution for the problem, which has affected several countries. TNM is closely working with Meta to resolve this problem,” the company said in a notice.

TNM has advised customers to protect their accounts by enabling two-step verification.
