Nigerian telco T2, formally known as 9 Mobile, has inked a multi-million-dollar deal with Huawei to overhaul its core network infrastructure.

The agreement comes after T2 recorded its first subscriber growth in nearly two years, adding over 290 000 users in July 2025. The telco has also just secured a national roaming deal with MTN Nigeria.

The deal with Huawei will see the Chinese vendor deploy technologies to boost T2’s network capacity, resilience, and security.

Obafemi Banigbe, CEO, T2, said the partnership was “a catalyst for transformation” and hoped the move will help revitalise the operator’s service portfolio and improve its market position.

He added: “With Huawei’s support, we’re not just upgrading; we’re future-proofing our network.”

The network upgrade project is expected to roll out in phases over the coming months.
