African electric mobility company Spiro has deployed more than 95,000 electric motorcycles across its operational markets, marking a major milestone in the rapid expansion of battery-powered transport infrastructure across Africa.

The company said the achievement coincides with its entry into Cameroon, extending its presence to seven African countries alongside an ongoing pilot programme in Tanzania.

The expansion reflects growing momentum behind electric two-wheel mobility as transport operators seek alternatives to rising fuel costs and volatile operating expenses.

Spiro said it has now established a network of more than 2,500 battery-swapping stations, creating one of Africa’s largest integrated electric vehicle charging ecosystems for motorcycles.

The infrastructure is designed to minimise charging downtime for commercial riders while supporting scalable urban mobility and delivery operations.

Chief executive officer Kaushik Burman said the company’s deployment levels demonstrate that electric mobility in Africa is moving beyond pilot projects towards large-scale commercial adoption.

According to Burman, Spiro’s growth strategy also includes partnerships aimed at expanding participation in Africa’s emerging e-mobility economy.

The company recently launched a women-focused electric mobility initiative in Rwanda in partnership with Entrepreneurial Solutions Partners.

The programme is intended to improve women’s access to electric motorcycles, financing solutions, technical training and digital mobility platforms.

Spiro said the initiative is expected to support greater participation by women entrepreneurs in Africa’s expanding logistics and ride-hailing sectors.

Under the partnership, Spiro will provide battery-swapping infrastructure, operational support and EV financing capabilities, while Entrepreneurial Solutions Partners will oversee entrepreneurship training and programme implementation.

The latest expansion underscores intensifying investment in Africa’s clean mobility sector as start-ups race to build localised EV ecosystems capable of supporting mass-market transport and last-mile delivery services.
