The Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) announced yesterday the successful launch of the Interbank Payment and Settlement System (SSIPSS) on October 10, 2025, with 13 commercial banks successfully connected and operational on the platform.

“The SSIPPS represents a significant milestone in strengthening the efficiency, security and stability of the national payment infrastructure,” said Addis Ababa Thow, governor of the BoSS.

While optional participation was allowed during the initial connection phase, all commercial banks are now required to join to the SSIPPS. The deadline for compliance is January 31, 2026.

A late connection fee of $100,000 will be imposed.

BoSS reaffirmed its commitment to assisting financial institutions with the onboarding process.

Thow stated that integrating all banks into the SSIPSS was critical for creating a modern, efficient, and interoperable national payments environment.

"All commercial banks are therefore urged to give this directive utmost priority and ensure full compliance within the specified timeframe," according to his advice.
