Mohamed Adam Moalim, Somalia's ICT minister, began the National Multi-Stakeholder Consultation yesterday in collaboration with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), which will approve the country's digital transformation strategy (2025-2030).
According to the Ministry of Communications and Technology, the move is a critical step towards increasing digital inclusion in the country, emphasising united efforts, capacity building, and strengthening the relationship with the ITU.
Moalim stated that the new strategy will serve as the overall guide for all ICT initiatives in the country, underscoring the importance of policy coordination, investment in digital infrastructure, and human resource development to accelerate service delivery and economic growth in the East African state.
The minister went on to emphasise the significance of close international cooperation, saying that it is the foundation for developing a modern, inclusive, and robust digital system.
During this consultation, Somalia's digital vision, strategic pillars, and implementation plan will be examined, with a focus on governance systems, finance mechanisms, and aligning the national digital strategy with those of the African Union and the East African Community.
“I am pleased to launch the National Multi-Stakeholder Consultation in collaboration with the ITU to validate Somalia's Digital Transformation Strategy. This marks a significant step towards building digital inclusion,” commented Moalim.
