Singapore-based company, Trident digital Tech Holdings has secured approximately $2.6 million to implement the DRCPass digital identification project in the DRC as the nation progresses with its digital transformation.

First announced early this year, the project is in collaboration with the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Digital Technology. It is designed to make it easier for Congolese citizens to use government service platforms by enabling access to multiple portals through a single digital identity.

The project comes as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) encourages the adoption of digital IDs across Africa. The UNDP believes biometrics are an important component of digital identity systems, particularly in places like Africa where traditional means of identification may be lacking. The agency is working with countries across the region, including Ethiopia, Somalia, and Zambia to adopt the Model Governance Framework for Digital Legal Identity.

According to Trident, the initiative is expected to transform all sectors of the economy by reducing identity fraud and cyber-crime to protect the country's digital future, enhancing public administration with less bureaucracy and more transparency.

In addition, the company stated that the demand for secure, efficient, and inclusive financial solutions continues to grow across Africa. By leveraging the speed and scalability of its flagship solution, Tridentity technology, a blockchain-based identity platform, it aims to accelerate financial inclusion throughout the region.

“This financing not only validates our strategic direction but also provides the resources to strengthen our global presence in digital identity and electronic Know Your Customer,” said Soon Huat Lim, founder, chairman and CEO of Trident.
