South African music streaming service Simfy Africa says it has teamed up with local digital agency Prezence Digital to develop a BlackBerry version of its music services app.
Simfy Africa is a partnership between the European streaming provider, Simfy, and local digital content company eXactmobile.
And according to the companies, the upcoming BlackBerry Simfy Africa app is part of a roll-out of fresh apps for the three major platforms in South Africa’s smartphone market: iOS, Android, and BlackBerry.
In contrast to the iOS and Android apps, which were developed in Europe, the planned BlackBerry app is being developed in South Africa, says a statement.
“It was a critical decision to develop the BB app locally,” says Davin Mole, chief executive officer of eXactmobile.
“We have a unique domination in the South African smartphone market by BB users and so this app was developed for the specific challenges of our environment – chief amongst them signal quality and the high cost of data. The new BB app feels like a high-powered smartphone app, and offers ‘touch and type’ recognition”.
BlackBerry dominates South Africa’s smartphone markets.
According to researchers GfK Retail and Technology, BlackBerry has been the number one smartphone vendor in SA for the past two years.
South African mobile operator Vodacom has previously said that BlackBerry phones make up 70% of the smartphone market in the country.
