The competition encourages students and young entrepreneurs to propose innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable energy solutions.

Schneider Electric has opened registrations for its annual global Go Green competition, inviting students and young entrepreneurs to present innovative, affordable, and sustainable energy solutions.

The contest aims to identify and nurture grass roots innovations that improve access to clean energy, boost local economies, and create long-lasting community impact, said the firm.

This year’s theme, Renewable Energy for Life and Livelihood focuses on two main areas; solar-powered agriculture, including pre/post-harvest activities, storage, and processing, and solar-powered microbusinesses in sectors including retail, services, refrigeration, manufacturing, and production.

The top three winning teams will share €10 000 in seed funding; first place €6 000, second place €2 500 and, third place €1 500.

The top 10 teams selected will proceed to develop their idea into a comprehensive business case between 1 and 31 August.

Each team will be paired with a Schneider Electric mentor to support during the project development phase.

The final leg of the competition will take place on October 6, with top three teams getting the opportunity to present their solution to a virtual panel of judges who will identify a global winner.

“Through the Go Green Competition, we’re not just challenging youth to think creatively, we’re investing in their potential to become the next generation of energy innovators.

"Furthermore, it is an opportunity for students to gain hands-on mentorship, access valuable learning resources, and secure critical seed funding to turn their ideas into reality,” said Tanya Ramlagan, vice president, human resources, Anglophone Africa at Schneider Electric.
