Savanna Fibre Uganda has launched one gigabit per second (1Gbps) fixed broadband connectivity, a key milestone in the country's ICT development.
According to the company, the launch reflects its broader aim of making high-speed internet available to all segments of Ugandan society.
The launch of this service is expected to open up new opportunities in a range of areas of the economy, including business services, education, fintech, digital media, remote work, cloud adoption, and e-government.
Beyond standard connectivity, Savanna Fibre noted that the service creates stronger foundation for the growth of artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, automation , and other data-intensive technologies that depend on ultra-fast and reliable internet.
The company highlighted that although it only began generating revenue two years ago, it has rapidly expanded with an objective to deliver high-speed broadband services that support inclusive economic development and put the East African country in a stronger position within the continent’s digital economy.
Furthermore, the milestone is consistent with the policy objectives of Uganda’s communications regulatory framework.
The Uganda Communications Commission has consistently emphasised the importance of next-generation broadband infrastructure in advancing innovation, improving service delivery, and strengthening national competitiveness.
“This is more than a technology launch; it is a statement about Uganda's future. At Savanna Fibre Uganda, we believe that high-speed internet must no longer be seen as a luxury for a select few. It is a national productivity tool. Our ambition is to bring broadband within reach of every Ugandan and to power innovation, enterprise, learning, and opportunity at every level of society,” commented Alex Wanyoike, CEO of Savanna Fibre Uganda.
