Safaricom Ethiopia has upgraded more than 67 network sites across key towns in its Southern Region to resolve network congestion and power supply challenges.
The infrastructure improvements directly cover Wolaita Sodo, Boditi, Shinshicho, Durame, Shone, Halaba, Areka, Humbo, and Hadero.
Subscribers can now access faster voice, data, and SMS services following months of targeted technical upgrades, the operator said.
Alongside the infrastructure work, the telco launched 16 new 4G sites in previously uncovered towns—including Sawla, Selam Ber, Basketo, Beto, Leha, and Agorabach.
The new infrastructure is also built to 5G-ready standards to handle future capacity demands and support expanded access to M-PESA mobile money services.
The expansion coincided with the opening of new retail outlets, creating over 150 local jobs in the region.
Safaricom is one of Ethiopia’s primary telecommunications operators, reporting 14.7 million active subscribers as of June.
“Safaricom Ethiopia will continue investing in network expansion and improvements across the country, helping more communities access reliable connectivity and digital financial services, while creating new opportunities,” the company said.
