Rwanda’s mobile phone subscriber numbers shot up to a record 4.62 million in the month of May.
The figures released by the country’s industry regulator, Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Agency (RURA), show that mobile phone users increased by 2.4% during that period.
These numbers indicate the combined figure for all three of the country’s operators, which increased to 4.619.429 million in May up from 4.508.666, recorded the previous month.
The new telco player in that market, Bharti Airtel, also added 55400 users to its network.
RURA also indicates that the country’s mobile penetration rate has also increased to 43% in May from 42% in April.
The regulator has targeted a 60% mobile penetration rate with 6 million cell phone users by the end of this year.
