Fixed line operator Telecom Egypt’s revenue jumped by 16% in the third quarter compared to the same period last year.

The Egyptian telecommunications firm, which released its quarterly results earlier this week, has also seen its net profit increase by 2.3%.

The company said its revenue of 2.86 billion Egyptian pounds was boosted by its data business. Telecom Egypt also posted a net profit of 650 million Egyptian pounds.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) reached 1.131 billion Egyptian pounds.

The government majority owned telco is also looking to add mobile services to its business unit, when the regulator grants it a mobile licence.

The fixed line telco hopes to provide mobile services to customers by year end.

Telecom Egypt is the largest fixed line provider in the North African country with some 35 million customers in 7 million homes.
