The Paratus Group is increasing its influence in East Africa by opening new operations in Rwanda.
The firm, which already operates in Kenya and Tanzania, will provide and install Starlink services, bringing broadband internet connectivity to businesses across the country.
In 2023, Paratus was appointed as the African distributor of Starlink's global Low-Earth orbit satellite services.
East Africa, which has over 200 million people and a combined GDP of more than $200 billion, is anticipated to become an important rising market in the next decade, according to digital infrastructure experts.
Agriculture, mining, manufacturing, energy, ICT, healthcare, and infrastructure will all contribute to growth, according to the company.
To this end, Paratus Rwanda will focus on major sectors in Rwanda, including as retail, financial services, government, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), agriculture, and tourism.
It went on to note that in the wake of previous disruptions caused by subsea cable outages across the region, businesses and institutions are increasingly looking for resilient and alternative connectivity solutions.
Starlink's service is ideal for rural and remote places, but it also provides metropolitan businesses with dependable backup solutions to protect their operations.
Commenting on the expansion, CEO of Paratus Group, Schalk Erasmus, said: “We are building Africa’s quality network by investing in infrastructure, services and people across the continent.
“Rwanda’s dynamic and fast-growing market aligns perfectly with our vision, and the addition of Paratus Rwanda strengthens our ability to serve customers with unmatched reach and reliability.”
Chief commercial officer of Paratus Group, Martin Cox, highlighted that the move is a reflection of the firm’s plan to connect more people across Africa, also unlocking potential in Rwanda through internet access.
