Optix, a global technology company dedicated to reducing on-road risks and road safety, is celebrating its 25th anniversary with an international expansion and the introduction of new predictive fatigue detection technology.
According to the company, the expansion would include opening operations in Europe, adding to its existing presence in over 60 countries, including Africa, the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand.
The major goal of the project is to reduce driver fatigue, a crucial issue that increases crash rates and insurance costs for commercial fleets.
The new technology, the Fatigue Solution, uses an algorithm that, according to Optix, recognises 11 symptoms of driver fatigue in order to prevent accidents proactively.
The company, which reviews up to two million videos per month, says that its technology saved more than 80,000 lives last year.
It emphasises that, rather of dealing solely with the repercussions from crashes, fleet managers may now employ predictive technologies to engineer fatigue out of their daily operations.
This move places the company in direct competition with major global players like Lytx and Nauto, who offer similar video telematics and AI- driven solutions for driver coaching and risk reduction.
Inge-Marie Hilligan, Group executive for product and culture at Optix, commented on the firm’s history and goal saying: "We have kept over 240,000 drivers worldwide safe over the last 25 years. As we grow, we hope to have a positive impact on even more drivers and to fulfil our vision where all road users end their journey safely home."
Optix, which began in South Africa in 2000, as a pioneer of “How’s my driving?” stickers before evolving through its DriverRisk brand, reports it supports over 1 million vehicles globally today.
