Lawyers in Nigeria’s Akwa Ibom state now have to file their cases through a website while paying all their legal fees online as well.
Nigeria’s Akwa Ibom state judiciary has automated its case management system in an effort to improve the administration of the justice system in the region.
The state judiciary arm has also said it has acquired an e-Judiciary enterprise resources planner (ERP): an electronic application that handles court processes.
A statement from the judiciary has urged lawyers to take advantage of the new system to fast track their cases.
“Please note that you can now pay court fees, fines and judgment debts online. Cases can now be filed online and research and virtual studies can be done in our e-library which is also accessed online on payment of a token fee,” the judiciary stated.
The statement further read, “This portal is another step in our effort to enhance transparency, ensure greater accuracy of records and ultimately achieve greater efficiency and speedier delivery of justice.”
The statement acknowledged the support of the state governor, Godswill Akpabio, for the online project.
The state judiciary consists of seven judicial divisions, ten magisterial districts and 94 district courts.
