Obsidian Systems is calling developers, architects, DevOps engineers, and IT professionals to MongoDB Day x AWS in Johannesburg on Thursday, 20 November 2025.

The half-day event focuses on application modernisation and cloud migration with MongoDB Atlas on AWS, with practical sessions and time to connect with experts and peers.

The event takes place at The Bryanston Country Club, 63 Bryanston Drive, Bryanston, Sandton, from 09:00 to 13:30.

The agenda starts with a networking and coffee session, followed by an Introduction to MongoDB x AWS, Application Modernisation with MongoDB, and Cloud Migration with MongoDB Atlas on AWS.

Lunch will also be served to allow for further networking. The format is designed to help teams move faster on modernisation projects while reducing migration risk and improving developer productivity.

“Modernisation is no longer a side project for South African teams. It is now a core capability,” says Dawie Labuschagne, Vendor Manager at Obsidian Systems. “What we like about this program is its focus on outcomes. Builders can see how MongoDB Atlas on AWS simplifies data services, shortens the path to production, and keeps options open for the future. Our team will be there to share local experience and help attendees plan their next steps.”

Who should attend

  • Developers and architects who want a clear path from legacy schemas to modern, document-based models.
  • DevOps and platform engineers who are standardising on managed data services and need to understand best practices for migration and operations on AWS.
  • IT leaders are evaluating how Atlas accelerates delivery while maintaining governance, security, and cost control.

What you will learn

  • How organisations are modernising applications with MongoDB, including design patterns that speed up delivery and improve maintainability.
  • Practical guidance for migrating to MongoDB Atlas on AWS, with considerations for networking, security, and operational visibility.

South African teams are under pressure to ship features faster, retire technical debt, and align data platforms with cloud strategies. The MongoDB Day format offers concentrated learning and peer exchange that can shorten decision cycles and de-risk early projects. Obsidian engineers will be on site to discuss migration plans, proof-of-concepts, and ways to build internal capability around Atlas and AWS.

Seats are limited. Secure your place today!

Note: MongoDB is hosting this event in collaboration with AWS. Obsidian Systems will be on site to support South African attendees with local context and implementation guidance.
