A third quarter launch is planned for Nokia's flagship phone, the Lumia 930, in South Africa.

This is according to Patrick Henchie, head of products for Microsoft Mobile Devices in South and East Africa, speaking at a launch event in Johannesburg on Thursday.

The new flagship phone is expected to be available in September, he said. The price, however, was not revealed.

Henchie was also addressing the crowd for the first time since Microsoft fully acquired cellphone maker Nokia.

In addition to running Microsoft's Windows Phone 8.1 OS the Lumia 930 boasts features such as a 20 megapixel PureView camera, HD video and four high-performance microphones to enhance the clarity of subjects and block out unwanted noise.

Other features include a five-inch full HD screen, LTE-ready, 2GB of RAM and a 2420 mAh battery.

Furthermore, the technology giant also unveiled a value tier model phone, the Nokia Lumia 630.

The Nokia Lumia 630 is currently being shipped to the country and is expected to be available in July for R1999, said Henchie.

The Lumia 630 follows on the success of the Nokia Lumia 520, according to Henchie.

“The Nokia Lumia 520 was one of the successful devices in South Africa and globally,” and the new Nokia Lumia 630 will keep up with that tradition and design heritage, he said.

Both phones also come fully integrated with Microsoft services, and those include full mobile version of Office, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote and OneDrive.
