Struggling handset maker Nokia’s latest smartphone, the Lumia 920, is to go on sale in SA in early November, the company has said in a statement today.

The Lumia 920, powered by Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 smartphone operating system, is planned to be available at first from mobile operators Vodacom and MTN.

Nokia is also planning to launch its Lumia 820 in SA before the end of 2012.

Both of the Finnish handset maker’s latest smartphones feature bright colour exteriors such as red and yellow, bigger screens and technology that reduces blur and shakiness in pictures and video.

And the firm is pinning its hopes on Lumia devices to help it gain market share in a smartphone space that has become dominated by the Apple iPhone and Android handsets.

Windows phones have captured only 3.7% of the global smartphone market, according to Strategy Analytics.
