The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission to accelerate digital skills development and strengthen innovation infrastructure across the six states of the country’s Southwest region.

The agreement was formalised at a signing ceremony on Wednesday, and is designed to better align national technology policy with regional implementation frameworks.

According to NITDA, the partnership seeks to combine institutional resources and expertise to develop a coordinated roadmap for digital transformation across Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo and Lagos states.

The initiative is expected to deepen digital literacy, expand access to technology-driven opportunities, and strengthen local innovation ecosystems across the region.

Speaking on the development, NITDA director general Kashifu Inuwa emphasised the importance of regional collaboration in unlocking Nigeria’s human capital potential and ensuring broader participation in the digital economy.

Inuwa noted that bridging the gap between national policy and local execution is essential for translating digital ambition into real economic impact for citizens.

DAWN Commission director general Dr. Seye Oyeleye welcomed the collaboration and expressed confidence that the partnership would serve as a launchpad for scaling technology adoption and innovation across the Southwest region.

The MoU focuses on three key goals: boosting digital skills, strengthening innovation hubs, and establishing a coordinated regional digital development framework.

The partnership supports Nigeria’s broader effort to decentralise digital opportunities beyond major cities, alongside initiatives like the Renewed Hope Innovation Hub at Obafemi Awolowo University.
