
The Data Protection Authority of Somalia (DPA) and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote bilateral cooperation on data protection and digital privacy.
The agreement, signed in Abuja, focusses on formal partnership between the two institutions to enhance data security systems, raise public awareness, and strengthen institutional capacity for data governance in both countries.
The MoU was signed by Mohamed Nur Ali (Eng Olow), the director general of Somalia's DPA, and Dr. Vincent Olatunji, CEO of Nigeria's NDPC.
Both leaders emphasised the importance of regional collaboration and the need for coordinated measures to addressing data privacy and protection issues.
The agreement also lays the path for structured training programs and knowledge sharing activities targeted at increasing staff skills and competencies, expanding collaborative efforts to combat data breaches, and protecting citizens" personal information.
Nur Ali, speaking at the signing event, emphasised the need for African data protection authorities to establish visible cooperation frameworks to strengthen legal, technical, and awareness mechanisms for effective data governance across the continent.
