Mobile subscribers in Nigeria could receive payment of up to $4.5 billion for poor quality service received over the years, a report noted.

According to APA news Nigeria's National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (NATCOMS) has renewed its call for telecom operators to compensate subscribers.

President of NATCOMS chief Deolu Ogunbanjo, said at the weekend in Lagos, Nigeria that the compensation would amount to about $50 per subscriber, APA reports.

However, the number of consumers that would need to be compensated was not revealed.

According to Ogunbanjo findings carried out by NATCOMS showed that about $10 billion had been lost to poor Quality of Service (QoS) in 2014 alone.

Ogunbanjo noted that it was injustice on the part of subscribers to suffer when the regulator fines operators for poor QoS but subscribers do not benefit at all.

Nigeria's active mobile subscribers reached more than 131 million at the end of 2014, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
