Uniccon Group, a Nigerian technology start-up, has launched its Omeife AI and Omeife digital literacy apps in Abuja.
While launching the apps, Mallam Kashifu Inuwa, director general of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), stated that technology is required to reach Nigeria's aim of 95% digital literacy.
"The apps have translation services from source to target languages like English, Pidgin English, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, French, Swahili, and Arabic. In addition, they provide subtitling, knowledge aid, text summarisation, and video translation."
NITDA previously collaborated with Uniccon Group in its efforts to increase digital literacy in the country.
The organisation stated that it would utilise a locally produced robot called Omeife to improve Nigerians' ability to use information technology and digital technologies.
Yau Garba, national director, National Centre for Artificial Intelligence Robotics, NITDA, said during the signing of the memorandum of understanding in Abuja that the robot may be commanded in Nigeria languages.
"Omeife can be in the hands of Nigerians to learn in a personalised manner and have an interactive experience," Inuwa remarked. “I've toured the facilities and am amazed by the technology in place. From a biological, physical, and chemical standpoint, I am pleased with the convergence of technology in this location."
Dr. Chuks Ekwueme, Uniccon Group chairman, thanked NITDA, academics, business partners, and government for their contributions to the growth of digital literacy.
He emphasised the importance of bringing technology to the people.
"NITDA has been a progress partner. The apps that have been launched will solve distinct problems in Africa while also adding value to society. Building a digital economy is impossible without mass digital education, particularly among the grassroots, such as local traders and the underserved," he said.
