Three years after announcing the release of its app for Microsoft's Windows 8 platform and Windows 8 smartphones, South Africa's Nedbank has yet to launch the banking app.

In 2012 Nedbank announced plans to roll out its app suite for both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 devices for customers.

At the time the bank said the app would provide six core functions to both Nedbank and non-Nedbank clients at no charge, enabling clients to customise their dashboard in line with their financial interests.

Some of the functions included net worth calculation, spend analysis, budgeting, saving for a goal, alerts and calendar view.

Greg Harwood, senior manager at Nedbank Group Communications confirmed with ITWeb Africa that the app is not available.

In an email Harwood said, "The Nedbank App Suite is not available on Windows at the moment but a Windows version will be launched later this year."

Some ITWeb Africa readers have expressed disappointment at the bank for not making its app available on Windows 8 devices since the original announcement.

"Gosh, still not here, time for a new bank," said John in the comments section.

Alan Smit also shared on the site, "Any idea when this app will be available for windows 8 phone?"

The Nedbank's app, however, is already available for iOS (iPhone and iPad), Android (phone and tablet), BlackBerry (OS 5,6, 7 and 10) as well as selected Nokia devices.

As at the end of December 2014, the Nedbank App Suite has been downloaded approximately 540,000 times across all mobile operating systems, says the bank.
