NEC Africa has appointed Phillip Nganga as regional manager for East Africa, giving him responsibility for the performance and growth of the business across the region.
Nganga joined NEC in May 2012 and has almost 15 years’ experience with the company, according to NEC Africa.
The appointment comes as NEC seeks to expand its East African customer base and partner network, with Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Rwanda identified as key markets for further engagement.
Nganga said his approach would focus on understanding customers’ businesses and future requirements before recommending technology solutions.
“East Africa has tremendous potential, and we believe the time is right to take the business to the next level,” said Nganga. “Our focus will be on expanding our customer base, strengthening our partnerships and broadening our portfolio of solutions.”
He said the company also wanted to strengthen its visibility across East Africa and ensure customers received ongoing support alongside its technology solutions.
“Visibility is particularly important for us. We want to strengthen our presence across East Africa and ensure that customers experience not only the quality of our solutions, but the long-term support and engagement that has always been part of the NEC relationship,” Nganga said.
The company expects digital infrastructure, cyber security, enterprise technology and energy to remain important areas of investment in the region, with governments, financial institutions, telecommunications companies and businesses in sectors including manufacturing and oil and gas driving demand.
Gary Munro, NEC Africa VP African Operations, said Nganga’s appointment formed part of the company’s strategy to accelerate growth in East Africa while developing local leadership.
“Phillip has grown substantially during his time with NEC, and this appointment recognises the contribution he has already made while giving him the opportunity to take the next step in his management journey,” said Munro.“We believe strongly in local knowledge and local leadership. Rather than parachuting people into management roles, we want to develop our own people and build an African business led by Africans.”
The appointment follows William Hunter’s move into a chief operating officer role, with NEC saying his technical and project management experience would strengthen the business.
The move builds on NEC XON’s decision in 2022 to establish an East Africa Regional Management Team to improve local decision-making and responsiveness. At the time, ITWeb reported that Hunter was regional manager and Nganga was regional sales manager.
