South Africa’s largest assembler and distributor of personal computers Mustek Limited has announced its involvement with Chinese telecoms firm Huawei in a R550 million project for Zambia Railway Limited (ZRL).

In a statement, Mustek announced its contract to supply and deliver R128 million worth of Huawei’s ‘signalling and telecommunications’ equipment to a consortium that consists of Huawei International, Bombardier Transportation and GMC Technologies (Zambia) Ltd.

The consortium plans to provide technology upgrades for ZRL at a cost of R550 million.

“Huawei’s selection as part of this Consortium bears testimony to the excellent quality of the company’s products and consultancy services,” said David Kan, chief executive officer of Mustek Limited, in a statement.

“We are proud to partner with Huawei and see a project like this as a platform for infinite opportunities in the growing African market,” said Kan.
