MTN Cameroon has partnered with Yango,a ride-hailing service provider that operates under Russian technology company Yandex, to roll out a dedicated SIM card tailored for drivers enrolled on the Yango platform.

The move, which was recently formalised through a strategic agreement signed in the economic capital Douala, seeks to ease operational burdens and enhance digital access for ride-hailing drivers.

The new package, dubbed “Special Yango Offer,” combines affordable communication, seamless app connectivity, and financial incentives to support drivers’ productivity and efficiency. It is already being rolled out in the major cities of Yaounde, Douala and Bafoussam – where Yango currently has operations – and is expected to reach thousands of drivers as Yango expands nationwide.

According to officials, for a monthly fee of just 6,000 francs CFA ($10.50), drivers will receive 50,000 francs CFA ($89.50) worth of call credit across all networks, unlimited access to the Yango Pro app, and zero withdrawal fees for mobile money transactions. Additionally, customers paying for rides via MoMoPay will not incur any extra charges.

Yango Cameroon’s country manager, Clovis Pilla, said the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to building a more inclusive and digitally connected ride-hailing ecosystem in the country.

“This offer enables drivers to remain reliably connected, improve their earnings, and streamline service delivery. It’s about unlocking growth with every trip,” Pilla said.

He added that by removing key barriers, such as high data costs and limited financial access, the initiative will strengthen the livelihoods of thousands of drivers who are vital to the country’s urban mobility.

Franck Gérard Kom, general manager of MTN Business Cameroon, said: “This collaboration ensures they can move people, manage their business, and stay ahead — all with greater ease and lower costs.”

In 2023, a similar partnership was successfully established in Côte d’Ivoire, between Yango and MTN. The two companies teamed up to roll out comparable digital offers to support ride-hailing drivers in the West African country.
