Ghanaian city Techimantia has a new Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre that is expected to serve almost 43 schools in the area.
The $100,000 centre - built by the MTN Ghana Foundation and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) - is furnished with 22 desktop computers, a laptop, a projector, colour printer, photocopier, scanner and digital camera, along with furniture.
The initiative, which was unveiled late last week, is the third of 10 MTN and UNDP ICT centres of learning to be established across the country in less than 12 months, according to the Ghana news agency.
“This initiative is in support of efforts to bridge the digital divide and the implementation of the mandatory ICT component of the new educational reform,” said Cynthia Lumor, corporate services executive of MTN.
.
Frederick Ampiah, UNDP partnerships advisor, reportedly told the chiefs and people of Techimantia , especially the committee with oversight responsibility for the centre, to make it a lasting testimony of MTN and UNDP’s support to the community.
