MTN Zambia has reached a milestone in its 5G rollout through a partnership to deliver unlimited internet to residents in one of Zambia’s most iconic cities.

The telecommunications operator has partnered with Nkwashi City, located 36 kilometres east of the capital, Lusaka.

Following the launch of the 5G Home offering on Thursday, MTN expressed its commitment to working with more housing developers to bring connectivity to every home.

Ellias Chembe, MTN Zambia chief home and special projects officer, represented the company at the signing ceremony at Nkwashi.

“The partnership between MTN Zambia Home and Nkwashi is more than a business deal,” he said.

“It represents a shared vision of the future – a future where every home and estate is seamlessly connected, empowered and able to participate in the digital economy.”

Chembe said MTN was bringing world-class connectivity solutions to the estate, with 5G connectivity as the first priority.

“As this estate expands, we will bring fibre to the home  directly into the estate, ensuring residents have access to high-speed, reliable and scalable internet connectivity.”

MTN 5G Home Internet is a plug-and-play, wireless, high-speed broadband service that serves as a modern alternative to traditional fibre-optic cables.

Chembe explained the significance of rolling out internet services to households.

“Today, the home has evolved from being a place to rest. It is now a workplace, an entertainment hub and increasingly a digital command centre for everyday life.”

MTN Zambia, the country’s largest operator, was the first mobile network operator to launch 5G commercially in Zambia in 2022.
