MTN Nigeria has launched Y’ello Y’Fi, an enterprise Wi-Fi service that enables businesses to analyse customer activity, run targeted promotions and manage network access.

According to MTN, the solution tracks Wi-Fi visits, repeat connections and connection duration, allowing businesses to personalise promotions and improve customer engagement.

The launch extends MTN’s offering beyond broadband connectivity to digital tools designed to help businesses understand customer behaviour and make marketing decisions.

“Y’ello Y’Fi enables businesses to unlock greater value from their Wi-Fi networks by transforming connectivity into a powerful customer engagement tool,” MTN said in a statement.

Lynda Saint-Nwafor, MTN Nigeria’s chief enterprise business officer, said small businesses need digital tools to understand customers, improve engagement and make better-informed decisions.

The launch comes as Nigerian businesses increasingly use digital channels to attract customers.

A GSMA survey of 250 Nigerian micro, small and medium-sized enterprises already using e-commerce found that 95% reported increased sales through online trade, while 62% said it reduced business costs.

However, the findings do not establish that Wi-Fi analytics will produce similar results.

Y’ello Y’Fi’s commercial value will depend on whether businesses can translate connection data into measurable increases in repeat visits, purchases or customer retention.

The platform also separates staff and guest networks, allowing businesses to manage visitor bandwidth while protecting internal network performance, according to MTN.

Customer analytics and targeted promotions raise data protection considerations. Businesses processing personal information must assess their obligations under Nigeria’s Data Protection Act 2023, including applicable transparency requirements and lawful grounds for processing.

Y’ello Y’Fi is available on MTN’s 5G Tozed X25 and X100 broadband routers. Existing customers can add the analytics service to their subscriptions, while new customers can purchase packages that include a compatible router, dedicated data and platform access.
