Microwave networking solutions firm Aviat Networks has inked an expanded managed services deal with MTN Nigeria, as Africa’s largest mobile network further cuts its costs.
According to a press statement, Aviat Networks currently provides value-added services such as network design and planning, inventory, spares management and product support for MTN Nigeria.
But Aviat Networks says it is set to further “manage the flow of material into Aviat-controlled facilities on behalf of MTN Nigeria.”
The deal comes as MTN Nigeria is on a drive to lower its costs.
Ericsson last month sealed a deal to take over the day-to-day operations of 75% of MTN Nigeria’s network.
The value of both the Aviat Networks and Ericsson deals; though, have not been revealed.
"This new agreement demonstrates our confidence in Aviat's capabilities to efficiently manage our inventory. The agreement reduces our overall costs and pain points and improves visibility to better plan future inventory requirements," stated Yahaya Ibrahim, senior manager core and transmission implementation, NID-Network Group, MTN Nigeria.
Heinz Stumpe, Aviat Networks chief sales officer and senior vice president, Heinz Stumpe, said in a press statement, "This agreement with MTN Nigeria lays the foundation to offer additional managed telecom services across our overall customer base."
"It opens a new source of business for us upon which we intend to build," says Stumpe.
MTN is Africa’s largest mobile operator with operations in 22 countries on the continent, in Asia and the Middle East with over 200 million subscribers.
MTN Nigeria has over 45 million subscribers.
