Following an impressive first half of 2025 performance, MTN Group, Africa's largest telco, is speeding the rollout of Fibre X in Nigeria, its most lucrative market.

Fibre X is a project aimed at making fibre access affordable in Nigeria, with a focus on the underserved, middle-income households as well as high-income homes.

According to MTN, the goal is to make high-quality broadband more accessible to everybody. The operator anticipates that a considerable amount of data demand and workloads will be generated at home during the next three to five years.

As a result, the initiative is anticipated to significantly enhance broadband quality and drive the digital economy.

MTN said there is a strong commitment to becoming the leading broadband provider in the country.

Karl Toriola, MTN Nigeria CEO, said: “As more families work, learn, stream, and connect from home, the demand for reliable data will only continue to grow. At MTN we are committed to providing solutions that keep our customers ahead of this curve.

“That is why we are advancing FibreX, our broadband proposition, across Nigeria to deliver fast and unlimited internet access that empowers homes and communities.”

“FibreX is coming to Nigeria. Leading digital solutions for Africa’s progress,” Ralph Mupita MTN Group CEO said.

FibreX, formerly known as MTN Fibre Broadband, signifies the company's commitment to offering ultra-fast, dependable, and accessible internet services in accordance with Nigeria's National Broadband Plan (NBP) for 2020-2025.

The NBP intends to reach 70% broadband coverage by 2025, with minimum speeds of 25 Mbps in cities and 10 Mbps in rural areas.
