MTN MoMo Uganda in transition, Okwi ready to lead

MTN Group Fintech announced a leadership change in its Uganda operations on Monday, with Richard Yego stepping down as CEO of MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) in the East African country on February 28, 2026, to pursue other opportunities.

He will be succeeded by Sarah Bateta Okwi, currently the company's CFO, who will assume the role of Acting CEO effective March 1, 2026.

According to the telco, Yego's departure comes after a period of significant growth for the fintech arm, with the business strengthening its position in the market. He has led the business for four years, played a key role in shaping and growing MTN MoMo Uganda.

Serigne Dioum, CEO of MTN Group Fintech, acknowledged his leadership and contributions, noting that he helped establish strong foundations for the business. Yego, who has led the business for four years, played a key role in shaping and growing the business.
