MTN Group president and CEO Ralph Mupita has met key Ghanaian government and financial sector leaders to discuss the group’s commitments, stakeholder expectations and opportunities to create shared value.

On Monday, Mupita paid courtesy calls on Ghana’s vice-president, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang; minister of communication, digital technology and innovations Samuel Nartey George; and Bank of Ghana Governor Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama.

Ghana is a key market for MTN Group and its largest fintech market.

In his meeting with Opoku-Agyemang, Mupita discussed MTN’s support for the government’s digital inclusion and digital sovereignty priorities. They also explored financial and digital literacy initiatives and opportunities to support women-focused programmes beyond Girls in ICT, which MTN Ghana sponsors.

Discussions with George focused on investment in and accelerated rollout of 5G, quality of service, home connectivity and the potential for terrestrial networks to complement low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to extend coverage.

Mupita’s meeting with Asiama covered progress on financial inclusion and ways to equip small, micro and medium-sized enterprises (SMMEs) with financial solutions to support business growth.

They also discussed financial literacy, responsible lending and the role these can play in empowering smaller businesses. Cybersecurity was another priority, with both sides highlighting the need for vigilance and collaboration.
