MTN Côte d’Ivoire has launched a four-month celebration marking its 20th anniversary in one of West Africa’s most dynamic markets.
Launched in 2005, MTN Côte d’Ivoire has grown into the country’s largest mobile operator, with more than 16 million subscribers, 4.9 million active MoMo users, and coverage reaching 93% of the population.
Looking back at its 20-year journey, the telco has invested over $33.6 billion (21 trillion CFA francs), created 645 direct jobs, and generated more than 150 000 indirect jobs.
Speaking at the launch of the anniversary celebrations, Mitwa Kaemba Ng’ambi, CEO of MTN Côte d’Ivoire, captured the spirit of the achievement.
“We have grown alongside Côte d’Ivoire, with its talents, challenges, and ambitions. Today, as we celebrate 20 years, we see this milestone not just as recognition of past achievements, but as a foundation for the future. The best is yet to come,” she said.
Ng’ambi said the celebrations are structured over four months, each carrying a distinct theme. September is dedicated to customers, and October will focus on employees and partners. “November will spotlight institutional stakeholders, while December will culminate in a grand festive event in honour of customers — a gesture that reinforces MTN’s customer-first ethos,” added Ng’ambi.
In a statement, the parent company, MTN Group, described the Côte d’Ivoire anniversary as a reminder of its role in connecting communities across Africa.
“We’re proud to celebrate 20 years of MTN Côte d’Ivoire — two decades of connection, innovation, and service to the people of Côte d’Ivoire.
“This milestone reflects Côte d’Ivoire’s progress and MTN’s commitment to invest in Africa’s digital future, where nearly 300 million people already rely on our networks and platforms.”
As the operator looks ahead, Ng’ambi further committed to doubling down on digital inclusion and community impact, making the telco’s 20-year journey less of a destination but a springboard into Africa’s digital future.
