MTN users in Cameroon will be able to watch live television channels and video on demand content on their mobile phones and tablets thanks to a recently signed deal between MTN Cameroon and French direct broadcast satellite service company Canal+.

Through the partnership, Canal+ content including films, series, documentaries and live TV channels will be made available on the recently deployed MTN TV Cameroon platform; which can be downloaded on Google Playstore.

According to MTN Cameroon’s chief marketing officer, Riadh Mezi, the deal will permit the telco to offer to its six million smartphone users, out of a subscriber base of nearly 13 million, access to high-definition video entertainment content.

“It was important to bring to our customers content that seem far to them. The aim is to democratise Canal + packages (Access, Évasion, Access+, Évasion+) and make them accessible to our smallest subscribers,” Mezi said, adding that subscribers do not have to pay extra for data for unlimited streaming.

Justine Zeinse, marketing lead at Canal+ Cameroun, told a press conference in Douala that user will not need a decoder but only a mobile device and the app’s user-friendly interface.

“Everyone will be able to choose the bundle that suits them and be able to enjoy their programmes daily or weekly,” Zeinse said.
