MTN Group has appointed Patrick Attoungbre as CEO of its fintech business in Côte d'Ivoire, effective this month.

The telco, which is actively pushing its fintech sector, announced the appointment this week, saying it marked a significant milestone in the company's expansion.

MTN Group has set its sights on being Africa's top fintech operator and is targeting to reach over 100 million consumers in the next three years.

The telco's aggressive financial drive comes as it seeks to transition from being a utility service telco to extend its ecosystem of offerings and diversifying revenue streams.

The company announced Attoungbre's hiring on Wednesday, saying he brings many years of experience in the African telecoms and fintech sectors.

Attoungbre has previously served as chief marketing officer (CMO) for MTN Côte d'Ivoire, with the company saying he played a key role in reshaping the MTN brand.

Before his time in Côte d'Ivoire, he served as the CMO for MTN Cameroon, and was also instrumental in launching the mobile money business in MTN Congo Brazzaville, transforming it into one of the group's most thriving mobile money operations.
