Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) and Malawi Telecommunications Limited (MTL) are looking for measures to improve operations and expand services to rural areas.
On Monday, MACRA Acting director general Mayamiko Nkoloma hosted an MTL delegation.
He stated that the meeting was intended to update him on recent developments at MTL, which he described as a significant stakeholder in the communication sector.
“MTL is one of the network operators in the country, which aims to leverage technology to ensure quality of communication services by among things providing connectivity to the rural masses,” Mkoloma said.
He also stated that MTL was essential for Malawi's digitisation objectives.
Mkoloma called for coordinated efforts in the communication sector to maintain service quality as the Southern African country strives for progress in its digitalisation initiatives.
The government owns 20% of MTL. MTL is Malawi's leading mobile operator by market share (about 56%) and network leadership.
