An event dubbed Mozambique’s ‘second hackathon’ is scheduled to take place on 27-29 June in the capital city of Maputo.

The hackathon, which is a marathon of programming, is expected to attract mostly technology, informatics and business students in Maputo. The first hackathon organised in Mozambique is said to have taken place earlier this year in March.

The theme of June’s hackathon is ‘Natural Disaster Management’.

And experts from the INGC (National Institute of Disaster Management) have been invited to speak about what kind of natural disaster situations typically occur in Mozambique and how to help in managing those disasters.

Focus areas are planned to include: warning management systems, rescue management systems, and organisational data or knowledge management systems.

A training session on building, designing and developing Android applications by entrepreneur in residence at the mLab southern Africa has also been planned.
