Morocco has opened the bidding for 5G licenses with the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT), stating the deployment will boost growth across several sectors, including transportation, healthcare, and agriculture.
Regarding the bidding contest, the agency stated that the tender documents de-fine the legal framework as well as the technical and financial requirements for establishing a 5G network.
The documents also specify the terms for providing commercial services, each licence holder's coverage and service quality obligations, and the regulations for evaluating bids.
“This process aims to provide the Kingdom of Morocco with the latest technologies in terms of mobile communications in order to support its economic and social development,” said ANRT in a statement.
The SAMENA Telecommunications Council, a tri-regional, non-profit organisation that represents a community of South Asian, Middle Eastern, and North African telecom operators, manufacturers, regulators, and academia, stated that the technology's rollout in Morocco is part of a broader goal to connect 25% of Moroccans to 5G by 2026 and increase coverage to 70% by 2030.
